Concept car design

In this tutorial we are going to practice some painting techniques and design a car concept.

For this one I will be using Photoshop CS2 along with my Wacom tablet.

So let’s begin with this.

Concept car design

Start by just selecting a circle using Round Marquee Tool.

Copy the selection into a new layer. Stroke the layer using Stroke in layer styles.

Then copy the stroked layer. Now it is possible to change the wheel base of our vehicle.

I will draw some lines to search forms better; just some mere straight lines.

Now as I’ve noticed the rendering of the wheels is usually done in the end of all the concept design, but I will make it right now.

Select the whole wheel layer not to cross the border while rendering.

For this operation I will use a Soft Brush.

Now make a selection that is about rim size and tap delete, deleting all that says within the selection area.

Looks quite ok.

Do the same with rear end wheel.

I’m also making a rim pattern here.

The rim itself was painted on a new layer so just merge the rim and the tire; real set and front set.

In the eng you should get 2 painting layers instead of 4.

I will also make some more rim details here using small rough brush with Size Jitter set to pen pressure.
